There is a VS Naipaul book that I've yet to read (and don't know if it truly relates) but I keep it on my shelves for the sake of reminding myself of the Arrival Fallacy--it's called, "The Enigma of Arrival." I remember experiencing this first hand after I took a company public--I had stock options and thought--this is it! Money! Success! I'll be happy now! The next morning, I sat on my kitchen floor and sobbed for 4 hours....It was my first experience with the arrival fallacy--but one I'll never forget. Your posts are great--I read a lot of these and your insights, your command of the language--these beautiful graphics --are terrific.

Diane, thank you for your kind and encouraging words, and for sharing your personal experience. As a new writer on this platform, a bit of encouragement goes a long way, especially when I often wonder if my words truly connect with my subscribers. The emotional rollercoaster you referenced following the public offering of your company really captures the essence of the “arrival fallacy” in its truest form! Certainly when we think about how achieving what we perceive as a “win” can lead to almost falling off an emotional cliff immediately afterwards. Ironically, this all beautifully ties into the broader theme of my newsletter, which is to explore (and challenge) the complexity of the human experience and the often surprising truths beneath our surface level achievements and societal markers of success. Thank you again for your continued support and contribution to this community. Your engagement and perspective are valued! I hope that my writing continues to resonate with you, and others, who have had similar lived experiences. And I will have to add "The Enigma of Arrival" to my list! Thank you again!
